Peter Jones USS Enterprise C brought me here, I think. I'm glad! I do seem to like Mark Guiliana's drumming when I hear it, maybe I should seek it out more, too. But that said, I'll be taking in other Phronesis recordings starting with the most recent.

All the tracks here work the way a trio should - well balanced between the performers, the instruments complementing each other. The pieces are varied in form and it's hard to pick a favourite, as ever with excellent music like this.

Great live vibe. Favorite track: Love Song.

Rob O. They are everything a forward thinking jazz band should be. Their Edition Records debut is top notch! Now I have their entire discography, including their first 2 independent releases. Favorite track: Untitled #2.

ortalio Amazing works. Amazing jazz. One of albums to come back and listen over and over. Favorite track: Abraham's New Gift.

john greenwood Simply great Jazz, better with age and every listen. This reminds me of the old musicians at the 5 spot in NYC that would come together and play off of each other. The musicianship is first rate. Love the music, if only you had it on vinyl...... Favorite track: Blue Inspiration.

K15 Listen to the very end of this track and hear Mark Guiliana (the drummer) KILL IT!

prosperoaw This is fabulous and occasionally fierce music. Splendid transfer to vinyl - just erupts from speakers. As talented a trio (with Giuliana or with Eger) as there is. Favorite track: Abraham's New Gift.

ABOUT:

VOTED JAZZWISE MAGAZINE'S NO.1 JAZZ ALBUM OF THE LAST 5 YEARS! [Aug 2015]

Flawless in execution, and driven by some of the most infectious and compelling music written in recent years, ‘Alive’ demonstrates an openness that is not always achievable in a studio setting. It is this telepathic empathy between the players and their collective desire to take the music in new directions that prompted Jon Newey (Editor of Jazzwise Magazine), to describe them in live performance as “the most exciting and imaginative piano trio since EST”.
